Cybercrime and fraud have taken the UK by storm and now cost the country billions of pounds a year, according to new research. The prevention group Get Safe Online has revealed that the UK economy has lost a total of £10.9 billion over the course of the last 12 months as a result of cybercrime and online fraud. As cyber-attackers have continued to employ ransomware in their attacks, more ordinary citizens have begun to fall victim to their attacks. Security researchers have discovered a nasty piece of spyware that’s being called “super-sophisticated” due to its use of encryption, which helped it stay hidden for five years. Symantec and Kasperksy Lab earlier this monthknown as Ramsec, which was launched by a hacking group dubbed “ProjectSauron,” a nod to The Lord of the Rings villain referenced in the code, which is also known as “Strider.”  

The EBA recently announced that it would be pursuing a new set of regulations revolving around online shopping, in the hopes that, when implemented, consumers who shop online will feel much more confident regarding their own financial security.
